This will be brief and to the point as we are scurrying to have everything ready for the influx of hunters who have heard the good word and are headed our way. All the stars seemed to line up and provided our birds with everything needed to produce an unrivalled number of Roosters.

Proof that good things come to those who wait certainly applies to what I would consider the most awaited pheasant season of my lifetime. I have taken part in every kind of season you can imagine. From good, to bad (bad is still better than anywhere here in the James River Corridor of South Dakota), to fair and flat out phenomenal; as recently as the early 2000’s and the height of CRP acres.

With pheasant hunting opener now just a month away, all the signs are still pointing to an off the charts adventure for the true upland enthusiasts. If you are wanting to get yourself, Dad or Grandad out on a Bucket List hunt, this year would be the time do so.

If you are itching as bad as I am to watch enthusiastic dogs and inhale a little cordite, a great pre-pheasant season outing is our South Dakota Prairie Grouse season. You can be assured I will be out on our west of the Missouri River land leases taking aim at plentiful sharpies, chickens and big coveys of huns. Come October 19th, the pheasants in the area become fair game as well.

As these leases were just recently finalized, we do have reasonable availability due to the tens of thousands of acres of private land made available for our guests’ exclusive access. We also took on additional land and lodging in the more traditional pheasant range east of the Missouri River and have some limited availability. As always, catering to both full and self-guided guests.
