Brought to you by Outfitter – Dakota Pheasant Guide
Early-Season was well, early-season. Dry conditions, unharvested corn and too high temps. Despite the conditions, limits were consistently harvested as we have plenty of Roosters to balance out the challenges.
Mid-Season arrived with welcomed rains and slowly dropping temps. Helping the dogs pick up scent, track birds and cover more ground. Limits came early and consistently.
Late-Season is party time. The period between Thanksgiving and New Years is truly the Holidays for hunting big, mature, full feathered and yes, cagey Roosters.
A light dusting of snow and some cold nights have the birds quickly grouping up and heading to classic cover. Meaning we are beginning to see larger flushes each day afield. If you would like to get your dog, your hunting companions and yourself into some serious bird numbers, now is the time.
The rest have left. It’s time to hunt the best…
We are not talking leftovers here folks.
Rather fresh birds that we have yet to make contact with.
After Thanksgiving, many outdoor folks begin focusing on deer hunting and the newly arrived ice for fishing. So many activities and opportunities to be thankful for here in South Dakota. This dispersal leaves the pheasant fields largely unmolested and prime for the more dedicated upland hunters.
We can now take advantage of the easiest and most exciting hunting of the season. Huge, powerful flushes that you can quite literally feel, the sheer commotion, sounds of waterfowl overhead, reactive shots seemingly striking the perfect chord, or cordite, if you will. Throwing an enticing aroma into the crisp air, enveloping the entire scene.
I simply cannot imagine a more conducive atmosphere to share camaraderie, renew friendships and strengthen family bonds. This is always the most important aspect of our hunts.
Hunting will only get better each day and there is still time to get in on the action. Public lands will see diminishing pressure and we have a few openings for fully and self-guided groups of any size. Just give Dennis a call at (605) 887-7069, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
